PAGAMI CREEK FIRE: LESSONS LEARNED
April 13-14, 2023 at Minnesota North College Vermilion Campus | Ely, MN
Pagami Creek remains Minnesota’s largest wildfire in over a century, burning 93,000 acres in the Boundary Waters Wilderness east of Ely. Most of that area burned in just a few days during a wind driven run of unprecedented speed and extent. A decade later, many of the lessons forest managers and researchers learned from that fire were applied to the nearby Greenwood fire.
Join us at a two-day symposium to hear from forest, wildlife, hydrology and climate researchers, as well as incident managers, agency representatives and community members as they share the research, management practices and human impacts that arose from the Pagami Creek fire.
Attendees will take a guided tour to see firsthand how the Greenwood fire impacted the land and surrounding communities, and how the Pagami Creek fire shaped the response to Greenwood a decade later. All interested learners are welcome!
$75 general, $40 student early registration rate available through April 1. Please register by April 9 to guarantee your seat.
