Job Title: Executive Director/Vice President

Job Location:  Minneapolis, MN

Full-Time; Annually Renewable; Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Dovetail Partners is a non-profit environmental think-tank providing authoritative information about the impacts and trade-offs of environmental decisions, including consumption choices, land use, and policy alternatives.  Our vision is to be the most trusted source of environmental information.

Dovetail seeks applications for the position of Executive Director/Vice President.  Desired applicants will be dynamic, experienced, collaborative and entrepreneurial leaders with proven project development, management, and fund-raising expertise in natural resources.  Our team works across diverse natural resource disciplines, and we seek applicants with expertise in a given field while also working effectively across this spectrum. The Executive Director/VP must be an excellent communicator and dedicated to collaborative and science-based decision-making processes. 

The Executive Director/VP position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

developing program and project activities independently and in collaboration with other team members, 

providing expert technical and directional input to support the financial and reputational success of the organization,

contributing to the development of reports and other educational materials made available through Dovetail’s website and monthly e-newsletter, and

assisting with and/or leading operational activities such as intern management, fund raising, communications, reporting, and audits.

Dovetail offers an independent, self-directed, flexible, creative and collaborative work environment with an office in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. The ED/VP will work closely with the President/CEO (K. Fernholz) in day to day operations and management.

Required Qualifications:

Professional experience and relevant education in natural resources management, research and analysis, consulting and/or policy

Excellent written and oral communications skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Experience in proposal development and project management

Ability to achieve positive results with diverse fundraising strategies

Demonstrated success in project collaboration with various agencies, organizations, and other natural resource stakeholders

Strong attention to detail

Ability to multitask and prioritize with an adherence to deadlines

Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and independently, as required

Experience following proper protocols in working with confidential materials

Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualification:

B.S, M.S or Ph.D in a natural resource field and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience

Experience preparing budget reports and managing grant and contract reporting requirements

Experience with digital media platforms and communication strategies

Experience leading effective geographically distributed teams and managing people

Experience or interest in working with diverse populations
